By continuing to use our website you acknowledge our updated Privacy Policy and agree to our updated Terms of Use.

What personal data we collect and why.

Comments

Since we have comments turned off on our site, we collect no information.

Mailing Lists

We use Mailchimp for our email list services.  You can read their privacy policy here.  This site has a link to Mailchimp for signing up and modifying your address.  While our Mailchimp list does maintain your Name, email, and photography interests, the club never shares your information outside of our club’s needs to contact you as a member.  At the present time we don’t even share your information with other members.  Mailchimp itself does track email activity whenever you open and read our emails, so we can know if you receive our communications and whether or not you open and read it.

Finally, you can easily opt out of receiving our email communications, including the club newsletter, by using the unsubscribe link found at the bottom of all our emails.

Media

Your share and learn images are posted on the site.  Images that you share with the club may contain “EXIF” information such as to location taken, time taken, copyright information, etc.  Unless you strip the EXIF information out of your shared images,  visitors to the website can download and extract any data embedded in the images on the website.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are used by websites to make the user’s experience more efficient.  The law states that we can store cookies on your device when they are strictly necessary for the operation of the site.  Certain cookies are used to enable page navigation, to help us analyze traffic,  and to access secure areas on the website.  If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.  Here is more specific information on cookies used on this site as well as instructions on how to block them.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. Videos on this site typically are embedded from YouTube.  Here is their privacy policy.

Analytics

Our website does collect information on visits and “IP” addresses so we know the general location of who visited.  We do not know specific people visiting the site.

Who we share your data with

This club does not share any of your information except as describe in other sections of this policy.  For example we do not share our member list, and email addresses.

What data breach procedures we have in place

We do maintain security software on the site to guard against hacking and malware.  Our site is scanned daily for malware by an outside service.  In addition we operate the site through a cloud service that continually scans for bad actors.  That being said, there is nothing that guarantees perfect protection, so we maintain only minimal information on our site and outsource critical information such as our mailing list.

Contact Form and Events Registration

Data Used:  The contact form submission data — IP address, user agent, name, email address, website, and message — is submitted to the Akismet service (also owned by Automattic) for the sole purpose of spam checking. The actual submission data is stored in the database of our site on and is emailed directly to the site administrator. This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.

Infinite Scroll

Data Used: In order to record page views via WordPress.com Stats (which must be enabled for page view tracking here to work) with additional loads, the following information is used: IP address,  user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code.

Activity Tracked: Page views will be tracked with each additional load (i.e. when you scroll down to the bottom of the page and a new set of posts loads automatically).

Search

Data Used: Any of the visitor-chosen search filters and query data in order to process a search request on the WordPress.com servers.

Sharing

Data Used: When sharing content via email the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address, IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. This content will be sent to Akismet (also owned by Automattic) so that a spam check can be performed. Additionally reCAPTCHA (by Google) shares the party’s IP address with Google for spam protection purposes. You can find Google’s privacy policy here.

WordPress.com Stats

Data Used: IP address, user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code. Important: The site owner does not have access to any of this information via this feature. For example, a site owner can see that a specific post has 285 views, but he/she cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Stats logs — containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) — are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.

Activity Tracked: Post and page views, video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com), outbound link clicks, referring URLs and search engine terms, and country.  Jetpack also tracks performance on each page load that includes the Javascript file used for tracking stats. This is exclusively for aggregate performance tracking across Jetpack sites in order to make sure that our plugin and code is not causing performance issues. This includes the tracking of page load times and resource loading duration (image files, Javascript files, CSS files, etc.). The site owner has the ability to force this feature to honor DNT (Do not track) settings of visitors. By default, DNT is currently not honored.
