Unfortunately, we experienced technical issues at the July 18th meeting and were unable to record the program The Industrial Story by David Duncan. After the meeting, several attendees said a couple of slides went by too quick to write down the information, so I asked David for those slides/information. Hopefully this covers those requests.

Program July 18: The Industrial Story by David Duncan
Whether you’re a fellow lover of all things industrial or simply appreciate the artistry of photography, The Industrial Story by David Duncan Photography is sure to captivate and inspire. The Industrial Story is a collection of industrial photography showcasing the power and beauty of the world of industry. Through a series of carefully selected images, this collection captures the raw, unvarnished reality of industrialization, from the towering cranes to the massive cargo ships, the intricate machinery, and the dedicated workers who keep everything running smoothly. These images are shot in a variety of locations from a grounds view, offshore on platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, to shooting aerial from helicopters. The images are made up of fine art, editorial and corporate images that are intended to convey the scale and impact.
David Duncan is a versatile photographer who creates branded photography for Image Libraries in the Oil & Gas/Energy and Industrial sectors, as well as for clients in Higher Education, Healthcare and Non-Profits along with local businesses, and private clients. David has 27 years of experience creating images for clients, 12 of those years working as a photojournalist where he worked with still, audio, and video formats.
He has also worked as an Adjunct Instructor at a private college and Managing Photographer, leading teams of photographers in various settings at a university. David & his wife, Michelle, recently relocated to the Houston area where David grew up, after living in Virginia for over 20 years.

David will discuss his approach to seeing the scene and looking beyond the initial capture as he is setting the exposure, capturing the moment, etc. Yes, it’s a beautiful moment or maybe it isn’t but he can see the potential in in the object or the view or the moment by understanding what is possible using the tools we have available to us today. We will take a look at original captures followed by end results and talk through why he captured the image and what led to his end result.

David Downs, our speaker, will discuss his approach to seeing the scene and looking beyond the initial capture as he is setting the exposure, capturing the moment, etc. Yes, it’s a beautiful moment or maybe it isn’t but he can see the potential in in the object or the view or the moment by understanding what is possible using the tools we have available to us today. David Downs has carried a passion for photography for as long as he can remember. There weren’t always the resources to have a camera nor to purchase and process the film that went in them. Yes, he’s that old. Over time he did manage to get a camera or two and although the stated purpose was to capture images of his rambunctious sons, he still managed to sneak a few creative images onto each roll.
Today, in addition to running a successful Financial Planning practice in Plano, David runs two photography businesses. David Downs Photography (www.daviddowns.com) is his platform for producing award winning commercial work, branding campaigns, portraiture and the creative art that motivates his time behind the camera. He’s received the Artist of The Year Award for the Art Centre of Plano and has had images on multiple magazines covers. He has multiple images selected for the PPA Imaging Excellence category in 2023 and received a Silver Medal from the TPPA in 2023. Benton Downs Photography (www.bentondowns.com) allows David, in collaboration with his business partner Barry Benton, to share his passion and love of photography with others. From classes such as Introduction to Photography, editing classes, creative photography classes and workshops in many locations, Benton Downs works to give every participant the instruction they need, regardless of their expertise.
