October 16 Program: What Are You Doing with Your Photography?
Our speaker will be Alan G Montgomery. Alan will share his experience as a commercial photographer, show some of his commercial work and share some of the volunteer work he has have done utilizing his photography. He will speak about getting images out of our computers and into sight. And how volunteering with your photographic skills to improve the world around you will improve your photography.
Alan is a fourth-generation professional photographer and was the owner of Woodallen Photography, a seventy-two-year-old company, in Houston until his retirement in 2017. Alan’s career at Woodallen began in 1967 and he purchased Woodallen Photography in 1973, a year after his grandfather’s death. Alan’s love of photography began with his grandfather, but grew through his love for learning and his desire to help his clients grow their business through his creative photography. He has traveled the world creating images towards this end. Most of what you see in his collection is what Alan has captured through his lens when he has been on a “photographer’s holiday”. His goal is always the same when he creates a photograph. That goal is to keep the viewer in mind. What is the message? Does it denote the right degree of quality, action, background and mood?
Alan and his wife, Jane, are native Houstonians and are lucky enough to have all three of their grown children and families living in the Houston area. Alan leads photography workshops for those wanting to grow their knowledge of photography.

September 18 Program: Large Format Nature Photography / My Inner Peace

Laszlo Perlaky is a Baylor faculty member at Texas Children’s Cancer Center during the week and a photographic artist on the weekends. He was born and raised in Hungary and came with his family to Houston, TX in 1990. After 20+ years of black and white photography, he has transitioned to the chrome medium, and then the new technology helped him to rediscover the monochrome, combining large format film photography with fine art photographic printing. He has won several prestigious awards, published and exhibited his work on art festivals, group and solo exhibitions. He is member of the New England Large Format Photography Collective (NELFPC), several national and international photographic organizations, past Print competition Vice President of the Houston Photographic Society, photography instructor at Houston Center for Photography and Houston Photography Study Group and leads his Naturalperl workshops. At our meeting Mr. Perlaky will talk about his ten year love of large format photography, combining large format film photography with fine art photographic printing. He will have several of his prints & camera to show and will talk about his portfolios.

August 21 Program: Baker Project
“Baker Project” presented by Darrell Hancock, a fellow member of the Photo Club. He will speak about his work the last couple of years in curating a small collection of photographs shot in 1953 by a prominent Houstonian — James A. Baker, III.
Darrell will talk about his involvement in selecting several photos for inclusion in Mr. Baker’s memoirs. He will tell us more about how Mr. Baker — then a 23-year-old Marine
Corps second lieutenant — came to be traveling through Europe that year with a 35mm camera and several rolls of Kodachrome.
Last October, acting on behalf of Mr. Baker, Darrell and his wife, Diana, delivered 27 prints from the collection to The Public Historical Library of Zakynthos, an island off the west coast of Greece.

Our speaker this month is TJ Avery with Thomas J Avery Photography. TJ spoke to our club in 2016 about night photo, including the Milky Way and landscape. (See photos)
This meeting, TJ will bring his expertise and will share basic information on scenic locations in the western side of Texas that offer photographic opportunities, including his recommendations about travel and lodging. The emphasis will be on parks, public lands, and the great
outdoors.

March 20 Program: “Astrophotography – Photographing the Heavens”
Our guest speaker, Father Joseph Barbieri, originally hails from Toronto, Canada and is a Catholic priest belonging to the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (Passionists). He has been a priest for 29 years and is currently serving his fourth year as Director of Retreats at Holy Name Retreat Center in Houston. He likes to say he is “Canadian by birth and Texan by adoption.”
Father Joe has had an on-going interest in astronomy and photography and has recently combined the two hobbies, making small steps into the realm of astrophotography.
The viewing and photography of deep sky objects such as nebulae, galaxies and star clusters nourish his on-going search for the God “who calls each star by name.”
He enjoys sharing his photos with others and participating in the amazement they experience when faced with the beauty of the cosmos.
We hope you will join us for the astronomical opportunity to learn about this unique photography field and enjoy his beautiful photos.
